The Missouri lottery confirmed that in 2008, she won a $1 million lottery prize in Hazelwood, Missouri(Good things happen to bad people). Apparently, she blew the money in 2 years and became desperate for money...
She is hoping for leniency in the court case. No leniency for her please jury? Thanks.
If other reports are to be believed, the baby's mother was in on this too, as if things could possibly be made worse.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea if there was a conversation between Patty Bigbee and her daughter as to whether or not the "buyer" would make a suitable mother. Frankly, it doesn't matter if there was. If you're fit to be a parent, the idea of selling your child would make you feel physically sick. The idea of child protection isn't just something that gets talked about in courts by social workers. It's a fierce, angry, primal feeling in every parent; wanting to ensure your child's safety. That feeling might even lead to giving your baby up for adoption, if you know that you can't give them a good life.
Giving up your child for adoption is a complex, heartbreaking thing and it's too easy, not to mention downright offensive, to assume that motivations are always selfish. But giving up your child for financial gain? That's abhorrent.
